2020 has been one of a series of unfortunate events. Globally there has been so much pain and loss that has left most just waiting for the year to come to an end so we can truly move on with our lives.
The death of a loved one is painful and it affects our lives in many ways, and can be a great test of our faith. As believers in Christ, though such loss can be devastating, we should remind ourselves that our Father in heaven knows all things though we may never fully understand His purpose in allowing it (James 4 vs 15 & Deut 32 vs 39).
Death is an enemy, a defeated one for God gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corth 15 vs 57).
But we are still human and feel the hurt. Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 4 vs13-18 how to handle such grief, it is very natural to grief, Jesus also grieved the death of His friend Lazarus (John 1 vs 47) but it is important to remember that we must never allow sorrow overcome us. Grieving is the process God uses to bring us to a place of wholeness “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalms 147 vs 3). Grieving can be a really hard time and as such we must be willing to support the bereaved through this phase by being a source of comfort, encouragement and compassion.
The bible tells us “It is better to go to a funeral than to a party, because everyone must die, and the living need to remember this.” Ecclesiastes 7:2 ERV, I always wondered why is this necessary?
Death is a wake up call to those still alive, a sobering reality of the end of every man. If this is the case, “It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost. You could never pay enough to buy back your life.” Matthew 16:26 ERV
“What you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need.” Matthew 6:33 ERV.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith…” Hebrews 12:1-2 AMP
“My dear friends,…you must continue to live in a way that gives meaning to your salvation. Do this with fear and respect for God.” Philippians 2:12 b ERV. Make your life count to you and God who gave you life.
“Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too.”
Make a difference, be a blessing to others. Philippians 2:4 ERV
In the words of Apostle Paul I pray for you;
“that you will see the difference between what is important and what is not and choose right; that you will be pure and blameless for the coming of Christ; that your life will be full of the many good works that are produced by Jesus Christ to bring glory and praise to God.” Philippians 1:9-11 ERV
Remember, God is faithful. He has not brought you this far to forsake you… 2020 will surely end in praise, trust Him.
