04 May PENNY WISE WOMAN
We are in very interesting times and I am sure you certainly agree with me that things are not as we knew them when we were growing up or even a few years back and going forward we can only hope it gets better.
Sincerely how does today’s woman walk in the steps of the Proverbs 31 woman? The cost of managing a home in these times can be daunting. Do we need to be geniuses then to be able to maximize every penny? I will say No but highlight a few vital points that can help us or that we can share with fellow women within our sphere of influence.
In my economics class way back we were taught terms such as scarcity, demand and supply, economies of scale, opportunity cost, such economic conditions are not mere theories and thus in the face of such realities what we all need to do is to adjust and adopt a few good habits.
1st Tip 💡: A Budget. This is a document that details your available resource(s), your needs (and wants) in the order of priority. We do this everyday, either mentally or by writing it down. What a budget does is to give you a clear picture of your income and expenditure within the family. It also helps planning ahead and resisting the urge to make impulse buying.
2nd Tip 💡: Financial literacy and prudence: This is crucial for every woman. The Proverbs 31 woman in verse 16 is a woman with business acumen, she considers the venture she gets into, thereafter she goes on to build an investment portfolio.
I was once told by a former boss “A woman shouldn’t eat with all her ten fingers”. To keep the stream of income flowing, every woman must also gain understanding of the diverse financial options available to her, this way she can turn around and multiply what she gets as house keep money.
3rd Tip 💡: A shopping Pool: Most times you can get a better deal if you get together with other women or families to shop in bulk, this way you get to make a little savings that can be saved up or made use of for more of the household needs
4th Tip💡: Proverbs 14 vs 1 tells us that “The wise woman builds her home (on a foundation of godly precepts, and her household thrives)” Proverbs 31 vs 27 “She looks well to how things go on in her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.”
Wisdom and Hard work are key for any wife and mother to maximize the resources at her disposal and to ensure her provision even in these times.
We will not get it right all the time but we are better off doing something than nothing.T
