Summer Time

Summer Time

Summer Holiday on my mind!!!

If some of you are like me this must have being flashing in your minds as it has been on mine.
The long school holiday which spans the months of July through to September yearly is upon us. It certainly is one time of the year that demands us parents to come up with the most creative ways to actively engage our children in activities that are both fun and educative.
Over the years I have tried a few ideas, music lessons, photography classes, trips overseas, visits to grandparents to mention a few but one of the memorable holiday plans I came up with years back was a holiday camp in my home.
What was I thinking you may wonder??? Well, in my opinion our children spend over nine months in the calendar year going to school, meeting up with class and school mates, more time commuting to and from school. With very little time for other aspects of life and living.
I conceived the idea, ran it through my children and then sold the idea to my husband emphasizing on the benefits to the children and myself. Approval granted I set out to invite my target audience; their cousins, the children of family friends. With a total of 14 children I reset my home, set up rules and regulations, got a few supplies for the activities planned.
Basically the aim was to get the children to develop a bond, especially the cousins, secondly to ingrain in them the value of relationships, teamwork while at the same time learning house chores, basic cooking lessons and interjecting it with time out for outdoor games, visits, board games, movie nights and other ideas the children came up with along the way.
In all we tremedously enjoyed the two weeks and you sure guessed right, saying goodbye was very hard and painful.

That was a few years back, I am looking at trying out something new. How about you, what do you have in mind?
There’s a plan to gather as much information as I can about upcoming holiday programs to ease the stress on us as mothers, hopefully you will find something that fits your child and your plan.

In the meantime have a truly beautiful week ahead.

I totally agree with you sis. Thats the best time to bond and help the children have a true feel of their parents. But sadly, we find the opposite happening. Thank you
